Rezzies open for six dates across two weekends

Done with schmegetable menus until late summer. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Reservations are open for two consecutive weekends, but note the days of the week.

  • Friday, Saturday, and Monday, May 24, 25, 27
  • Saturday, Sunday, Monday, June 01, 02, 03

We're now taking reservations for BOTH WEEKENDS. We'll start at 7:30pm each night. Dinner will be $95/person not including tax or gratuity, and it's all BYOB. The palindromic menu is at right and at this link. Click the image to see a bigger version. The location of the dinners is in the city and will be easily accessible by BART. Specifics about the location will be disclosed after the reservation process is underway and you've gotten in and paid a deposit. We CAN accommodate many dietary restrictions, but you must be able to eat pork and poultry.

Before filling out the reservation request form, emailing us with questions, or asking why you haven't heard from us, please read all about the Lazy Bear reservation and confirmation process on this page to make sure you know what you're getting into. After you've read that info, you can submit a reservation request on our website by clicking here and proceeding to answer the questions carefully. Once you've submitted the form, you do not yet have a reservation! We'll keep the request period open from now through the DEADLINE THIS SUNDAY EVENING (05/19) AT 5:00PM. At that time, requests will close, we'll run the pseudorandom algorithm determining which requests get spots, and start offering reservations to parties on Sunday night. We will continue to offer reservations to parties on a rolling basis as they become available.

Unless and until you are being offered a reservation, you won't hear from us at any point after submitting your request. But there are always cancellations, so even if you don't initially get in, we may contact you later on about open seats. Parties with an even number of guests have a significantly better chance of getting in initially, and a much better chance of getting in later when seats open up due to cancellations. Every weekend, we end up calling at least ten or twenty parties before someone even answers their phone. That means a whole bunch of people are missing out on the opportunity to come. Put our numbers in your phone! (415)662-3373, and (415)613-3373. Similarly, add reservations@lazybearsf.com to your trusted senders list. And follow us on Twitter @lazybearsf because we sometimes post about last-minute cancellations.

Lazy Bear Vegetarian Dinners, May 3, 4, 10, 11, 13

UPDATE: Reservations are now closed. Thanks!

It's that time of year. The spring produce is incredible right now, the weather is great, and all we want to do is sit outside in the sun shucking peas and favas and cleaning artichokes. So it's time for some vegetarian dinners. It's been quite a while. We feel terrible about not being able to accommodate vegetarians at most of our dinners, so occasionally we do a whole menu entirely vegetarian to make up for it. We love cooking for vegetarians, and it's always exciting for us when these dinners come around.

We are doing these vegetarian dinners two weekends in a row, with approximately the same menu both weekends. We're now taking reservations for BOTH WEEKENDS . We'll start at 7:30pm each night. Dinner will be $90/person not including tax or gratuity, and it's all BYOB. A thumbnail version of the tentative menu is at right and here. Click the image and it will link you to a full-size image. For the omnivores among you, don't worry. Though these dinners will not have any meat-based products, they will surely be delicious and filling bear fare like usual. If your favorite spring vegetable isn't listed on the menu, it'll probably pop up in the snacks and treats instead.

Please note that the deadline for submitting reservation requests is quite soon (Monday, 4/29 at 2:00pm). Once it hits, we will be processing reservations and notifying the first parties who got in VERY QUICKLY afterward. We will be asking you to respond immediately for the first weekend. So please keep an eye on your inbox on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. A lot of our emails have been going to people's spam folders lately, so add reservations@lazybearsf.com to your trusted senders list so you don't miss out.

The location of the dinners is in the city, easily accessible by BART. Specifics about the location will be disclosed after the reservation process is underway and you've gotten in and paid a deposit. We CAN accommodate many dietary restrictions, including, obviously, vegetarians. Apologies, but we still can not accommodate vegans, and are unlikely ever to be able to do so in our current format.

We'll keep We kept the request period open from now through the deadline this MONDAY (04/29) AT 2:00PM. At that time, requests will close, we'll run the pseudorandom algorithm determining which requests get spots, and start offering reservations to parties as early as late afternoon. We will continue to offer reservations to parties on a rolling basis as they become available. Unless and until you are being offered a reservation, you won't hear from us at any point after submitting your request. But there are always cancellations, so even if you don't initially get in, we may contact you later on about open seats. Follow us on Twitter @lazybearsf because we sometimes post about last-minute cancellations.

UPDATE: Reservations are now closed. Thanks!

We just got back from our working vacation in Seattle, where we ate way too much, cooked a bunch, and met a whole set of new challenges taking the Lazy Bear show on the road. Now we're ready to get back to Lazy Bear at home. Also, we are still on the hunt for one more full-time cook, one part-time cook, and one part-time front of house person. If you know anyone who might be interested, please have them send a resume to me at david@lazybearsf.com.

For the next sets of dinners we are doing approximately the same menu on two consecutive weekends. Friday, Saturday, and Monday of each weekend, April 5, 6, 8, then April 12, 13, 15. We're now taking reservations for BOTH WEEKENDS . We'll start at 7:30pm each night. Dinner will be $95/person not including tax or gratuity, and it's all BYOB. A tentative menu is at right. Poke the image and it will grow. The location of the dinners is in the city, easily accessible by BART. Specifics about the location will be disclosed after the reservation process is underway and you've gotten in and paid a deposit. We CAN accommodate many dietary restrictions, but no veg(etari)ans. However, we WILL be doing one or two all vegetarian weekends quite soon. Just waiting on the peas.

UPDATE: Reservations now closed. Once you've submitted the form, you do not yet have a reservation! We'll keep the request period open from now through the deadline this SATURDAY NIGHT (03/30) AT 11:59PM. At that time, requests will close, we'll run the pseudorandom algorithm determining which requests get spots, and start offering reservations to parties as early as Sunday morning. We will continue to offer reservations to parties on a rolling basis as they become available.

Unless and until you are being offered a reservation, you won't hear from us at any point after submitting your request. But there are always cancellations, so even if you don't initially get in, we may contact you later on about open seats. Parties with an even number of guests have a slightly better chance of getting in initially since they are easier to fit, and a much better chance of getting in later when seats open up due to cancellations. Dinners in Seattle, next Friday and Sunday!

We are headed up to Seattle next week to do TWO Lazy Bear dinners at a cool Seattle venue/supperclub/food lab/unique thing called The VUDE (the Velvet Underground Dining Experience). We'll be cooking up a ton of stuff like always (previous diners know that "snacks" has a very expansive meaning to us) but this time it'll be PAIRED with some incredible wines. And, you know, it'll be in Seattle. So, we need your help. We need you guys to tell your Seattle friends so we can make sure to fill all the seats! It'll be just like Lazy Bear in SF except that people will actually be able to get in. I have no idea how quickly they will sell out. So please tell all of your Seattle friends, tweet and retweet, or heck, why not just fly up there and go yourself for a mere one-twentieth of the average monthly rental price of an SF apartment!

After these dinners, our next regularly-scheduled Lazy Bear dinners (back home in San Francisco) will be April 5-8 and April 12-15. You can mark those down now.

Now back to the Seattle dinners. We are doing two nights, Friday, 3/22, and Sunday, 3/24. Yep, that's just NEXT WEEKEND, which means you must act quickly to inform your Seattle friends what we are about to unleash on their fair city. The dinners will be $135 per person, all-inclusive (tax, tip, and paired with a bunch of amazing wines including a couple from Hand Of God). It's going to be seriously awesome, with Carter Caviar donating bunches of caviar, and Taylor Shellfish providing some amazing product as well. Plus, we're packing some of SF's best products, like Liberty Ducks from Sonoma County Poultry, and bringing them with us.

Tickets for the dinners can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets at this link.

Reservations open for next weekend

UPDATE: Reservations now closed. Thanks!

As promised, we are serving next Friday, Saturday, and Monday, March 8, 9, and 11. If you'd like to come, you'll need to act quickly and submit your reservation request by noon this Sunday. Read on further down for more details.

All is well in Lazy Bear land. You may have noticed that we are doing dinners with increasing frequency, and of course we are always working incredibly hard to raise the level of the food and the experience that we give you guys. We are trying to plan some upcoming pairing dinners in collaboration with certain restaurants and bars, and we are also planning some upcoming dinners all across the country. I'm excited to take on those challenges.

As we grow, we are looking for some new colleagues to join our quirky little crew. At the moment, we very much need one more full-time cook, and could also use one part-time front of house person and one additional part-time cook. If you know anyone who might fit, please have them send a resume to me at david@lazybearsf.com.

Now back to next weekend's dinners. We'll start at 7:30pm each night. Dinner will be $95/person not including tax or gratuity, and every night is completely BYOB. A tentative menu is at right. The location of the dinners is in the city, easily accessible by BART. Specifics about the location will be disclosed after the reservation process is underway and you've gotten in and paid a deposit. We CAN accommodate many dietary restrictions, but alas, still no veg(etari)ans.

Before filling out the reservation request form, emailing us with questions, or asking why you haven't heard from us, please read all about the Lazy Bear reservation and confirmation process on this page to make sure you know what you're getting into. After you've read that info, you can submit a reservation request on our website by clicking here (UPDATE: Reservations now closed. Thanks!) and proceeding to answer the questions carefully. If you fail to follow directions or fail to provide enough information, your request will probably just be ignored. Once you've submitted the form, you do not yet have a reservation! We'll keep the request period open from now through the deadline this SUNDAY (03/02) AT NOON. At that time, reservation requests will be closed, and we'll run the pseudorandom algorithm determining which requests get spots. We'll start offering reservations to parties as early as Sunday night. After that we will continue to offer reservations to parties on a rolling basis as they become available.

Unless and until you are being offered a reservation, you won't hear from us at any point after submitting your request. UPDATE: Reservations are now closed. Thanks!

The last set of dinners was great, and we were able to fit in a whole bunch of you guys who had been trying to get in for long time. We also realized just how many of you were in that position. So, we're working on a brand new, custom reservation system that will allow us to monitor how many times you've been waitlisted since the last time you got in, instead of relying on you guys to try to somehow remember exactly which dates you attempted to come. That should allow us to spot cases where people have been waitlisted five, six, seven times and make sure they can get in. But we cook better than we program, so the new system may still take a month or so to fully implement. In the meantime, it's reservation business as usual. But for now we are keeping the new "manual review" option for people who keep trying again and again and again.

Now pay attention, because you must submit your reservation requests for these dinners before midnight tonight. This set of dinners is spans a couple unusual nights of the week for us: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, February 24, 25, and 26. We'll start at 7:30pm each night. Dinner will be $95/person not including tax or gratuity, and every night is completely BYOB. A tentative menu is at right, but there are always changes. Just about every time we threaten to serve uni or any kind of fish roe, some weird weather pattern makes those things unavailable. So who knows? But generally, we'll use the tentative menu as a strongly suggestive guideline. The location of the dinners is easy to reach by public transit right here in the Mission District. Specifics about the location will be disclosed after the reservation process is underway and you've gotten in and paid a deposit. We CAN accommodate many dietary restrictions this time, but no vegetarians, vegans, or those with an allergy to any shellfish. Anything else, go ahead and submit a request and we'll evaluate case by case whether we can handle it.

After these, the next dinners will be March 8, 9, and maybe the 11th, so you can plan ahead for those.

For every set of dinners, we get way more requests for reservations than we have spots available. For that reason we try to make the process more fair (according to a completely arbitrary and subjective definition of fairness) by using a semi-random lottery to assign reservations. It's a weird and admittedly confusing process. So, before filling out the reservation request form, emailing us with questions, or asking why you haven't heard from us, please read all about the Lazy Bear reservation and confirmation process on this page to make sure you know what you're getting into. After you've read that info, you can submit a reservation request on our website by clicking here and proceeding to answer the questions carefully. If you fail to follow directions or fail to provide enough information, your request will probably just be ignored. Once you've submitted the form, you do not yet have a reservation! We'll keep the request period open from now through TONIGHT (02/20) AT 11:59PM. At that time, reservation requests will be closed, and we'll run the pseudorandom algorithm determining which requests get spots. We'll start offering reservations to parties on Friday. After that we will continue to offer reservations to parties on a rolling basis as they become available.

Unless and until you are being offered a reservation, you won't hear from us at any point after submitting your request. But there are always cancellations, so even if you don't initially get in, we may contact you later on about open seats. FIVE different nights of dinners, one-ish menu, reservations open NOW!

UPDATE: Reservations are now closed. Thanks! Last week's first-come, first-serve ticketed dinners went well. Maybe not so well for those of you who sat there refreshing for ten minutes and were never able to get tickets. Still, we may do a ticketing system again from time to time. But for now, we're back to the usual reservation system, BUT with a new option under lottery bonuses. This new option is for those of you who feel like you've tried to get in but have always been denied, maybe because you haven't tried consecutively, have changed email addresses, or have submitted requests under different party members' names, and you're getting pretty fed up, and it's about damn time you got in! It's an experiment for us. We'll see how it goes. If 100 people check that box, it's useless to anyone. But if maybe ten of you guys check it, then we can actually incorporate it into our lottery algorithm. It's a way to compensate for the fact that our reservation system is so weird and difficult and that it excludes so many people who do everything right but aren't available for every single dinner. So, use it well and fairly.

These dinners will be $95/person not including tax or gratuity, and are completely BYOB. Dinner will start at 7:30pm each night. We're doing Friday and Saturday, February 1 and 2, and then doing Friday, Saturday, and Monday of the following weekend, February 8, 9, and 11. A tentative menu is at right. Expect a few changes by the first weekend, and a few more changes by the second weekend. But generally, we'll use the tentative menu as a strongly suggestive guideline. The location of the dinners is TBD, but we will try to make it in the Mission District and easily accessible. Specifics about the location will be available for disclosure after the reservation process is underway and you've gotten in and paid a deposit. We CAN accommodate many dietary restrictions this time, but we are still not able to accommodate vegetarians, vegans, anyone who is completely gluten-free, or those with an allergy to all seafood (but for specific seafoods, go ahead and ask). Anything else, go ahead and submit a request and we'll evaluate case by case whether we can handle it.

For every set of dinners, we get way more requests for reservations than we have spots available. We'll start offering reservations to parties that got in for the first weekend on Sunday night. After that we will continue to offer reservations to parties on a rolling basis as they become available. A day or two later we'll start offering reservations to parties who got in on the second weekend of these dinners.

Unless and until you are being offered a reservation, you won't hear from us at any point after submitting your request.
